Jaycee & Uptown Normal Book Drive 2011

The Bloomington-Normal Jaycees, along with the Uptown Normal Business Association (UNBA), sponsored their fourth annual book drive to collect books benefiting Book Showers for Literacy of McLean County (BSLMC) and the YWCA’s Book Buddies program.

The Book Drive began Aug. 1 and ran through Aug. 15. Books collected were given to organizations providing books to underprivileged children in McLean County. Drop-off locations for the books were: Babbit’s Books, Children’s Discovery Museum, The Garlic Press, Normal Public Library, Uptown Normal Office, and Normal Marriott.

We are happy to announce we collected over 1,500 new and gently used books for toddlers and young adults!  Thank you for helping us provide books to children whose families cannot afford them!

BSLMC delivers books to underprivileged children in McLean County. The “Book Showers for Literacy” program is sponsored by the Child Care Resource and Referral Network and the STAR Adult Literacy Program. A new program for the YWCA, Book Buddies focuses on children 3-5 years old with weekly reading time and helps to build their libraries at home by providing one take home book each month.
